The Next Step

For many the results of the presidential election are shocking.  Across the country people are passionately responding to the new president-elect with social media posts, protests, celebrations, and checking out Canada’s immigration website.  There are a lot of strong emotions, and I feel them just like you.  For past day or so I’ve had several questions circling in my mind:

– What does this mean?

– What is going to happen?

– What does the future hold?

– What should I do?

– What is the next step?

Today I want to address the last two questions.

As I pondered these questions, one answer came to mind.  Live.  What should I do?  I need to keep living.  What is the next step?  To live as God requires.  In Micah 6:8 the prophet says,

He has shown you, O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you

but to do justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God?

Regardless of who the POTUS is, our requirement is to always do justly, love mercy, and walk humbly before God.  God is calling us to be active, engaged, and alert.  We are to be voices for the voiceless.  We are to give love and mercy to those who need it.  We are to walk in the truth that our God is great and mighty.  We are to live as God requires.

We do not know what the next four years or 50 years will look like.  We do not know how biblical prophecy will unfold.  We do not know when Jesus will return.  But we do know that while we are here on earth we have a calling and responsibility as followers of Christ.  That calling mandates that we stand and live for God and His principles.  It means that we do not let fear of anything or anyone prevent us from seeking justice and showing mercy.  We must remember the God we walk with and serve.

The Bible shares many things about Earth’s future that are unsettling and frightening.  The reality is we don’t know exactly how current events contribute to this.  We do know that evil will continue to increase, and we have been a witness to that for years.  As evil increases our requirement to do justly, love mercy and walk humbly will become harder.  How to live out this requirement will become less clear.  But that does not change God’s desire.  We must live, and let God’s light shine through us.

My desire for you over the next weeks and months is that you remain rooted in the Lord.  Emotions will arise.  Fears will arise.  Frustrations will arise…and that’s ok.  Take all of those things to God in prayer.  Study the Word of God.  Be strengthened by the truth it holds.  It is only by staying connected to Christ that we will endure to the end, and know how to live in the present.  Stay focused on God and live as He requires.  Be encouraged.
